\nDear Mr. Edison:-
\nI have been very much surprised to note the enclosed matter in the New York Journal today, and must confess that I cannot understand it. I have just left Mr. Fish, who is very much distressed that such a thing should appear in public prints, and who, from what I know of him, would be the last man to want to step into your shoes, if this statement, were true. I am not saying anything about the matter in the paper this week other than to note the fact of the G.E. election, but I thought I ought to drop you a line sot hat in case you desire anything to be said we might understand each other.
