\nDear Sir:-
\nMr. Edison has read your letter of 18th instant, in regard to your making application to the Philadelphia & Reading Coal & Iron Co. for compensation for the work which you did in connection with the leasing to aim the Putnam County property belonging to that Company. In reply Mr. Edison directs me to say to you that he has not yet commenced operations on the property in question and has done nothing there, except to buy the railroad, the extension of which he has now under consideration [illegible] would advise you not to make for all application to the J. & N.C. & I Co. for compensation until we commence to make payable to them.
