\nDear Sirs:-
\nIn reply to your letter of 25th instant, I beg to say that Phonographs are being sold in Canada and in several States, the price charge being, I think, $150 for a machine complete. I am informed that the Kentucky Phonograph Co. Louisville, bells machines. I know that the New England Phono Co., makes sales, and [illegible] the Columbia Phonograph Co. of Milwauke. The Companies named sell machines for use only in the territory which they control, and the instruments have restricted plates attached to them. I do not think it would be possible for Mr. Young to use a phonograph in London or anywhere in Gt. Britain, unless he purchased the same from the Edison Jones Phonograph Co. It is evident from his enquiry that in [rest of phonograph illegible] instrument if it were in any part of their territory. They control all foreign patents.
