\nMy Dear Mr. Edison:-
\nI enclose herewith a letter which I have addressed to Prof. [J.P.?] Barrett of Chicago, and which in a measure explains [illegible]. I had hoped to see you to-day to make further verbal [illegible] in regard to your exhibit but was engaged upon a [report?] which I have to make to the Board to-morrow and could not leave New York. I wish to obtain a direct assignment in your name of the space which you are to occupy in the section allotted to the General Electric Company. You will see from Mr. Greene's letter addressed to you under date of the 4th inst., copy of which I also enclose, that such an arrangement is entirely satisfactory to the General Electric Company. The central space originally assigned to the Phoenix Glass Company is to be assigned to you, and is to be utilized for the erection of a column emblematic of the Incandescent light. It is most desirable - in fact it is absolutely necessary - that the design for this column and the character and arrangement of the surrounding exhibit should be placed in the hands of someone having a thorough knowledge of the subject. Our purpose in rearranging this matter, is to give Steringer control. You are fully acquainted with Steringer's ability as an exhibitor and he and I with the co-operation of Mr. Greene, representing the General Electric Company, are working together to make the most of everything.
\nThe display will be most creditable in most every respect. I want you to approve this letter to Barrett by countersigning the same as indicated. All expenses connected with this affair is are to be borne by the General Electric Company. As Mr. Greene has already approved of the plans proposed by myself and Mr. Steringer, I do not anticipate that you will object to indicate your own approval.
\nYours very truly,
\nAO Tate
