Letterhead of Law Offices of Dryer, Edmonds & Dryer
31 Nassau Street,
New York.
February 21, 1900.
Thomas A. Edison, Esq.,
Orange, N. J.
Dear Sir,-
In reference to your applications Edison No. 1017 and Edison No. 1024 for Process and Apparatus for Drying and Screening Ores and Other Material, consisting in crushing the passing it through a dryer, screening it, and mixing such recrushed tailings with fresh quantities of wet or damp material, the Examiner cites two patents granted to F. D. Cummer of Cleveland, Ohio. Both of these patents relate principally to methods and apparatus for treating garbage, and we believe that by argument submitted today we have fully distinguished your invention therefrom. It occurs to us, however, that you may be able to swear back of the references in case the Examiner still relies upon them. The Cummer patents were both applied for on March 25th 1896. Did you make your invention before that time?
Yours very truly,
Dyer Edmonds & Dyer
(F. L. D.)
<WE did it before that date Mallory will give you date when I shipped it to Zinc Co plant>
