Title

[X012DO], Letter from Gardiner Greene Hubbard to Thomas E Cornish, September 11th, 1878

Editor's Notes

Gardiner Hubbard to Mr. Richards; re competition with Gold and Stock "Mr Edison has promised to invent a telephone for them, but after many months of trial he has not produced one that can be offered to their customers. He will probably succeed in making one for he can take our idea, dress it in a new form; so that it will appear to a casual observer a different invention. Sutis for infringement of our patents will then follow. The Gold & Stock Tel. Co. will instruct the Employees of the West Union Tel. Co. to lease the Edison Telephone & where the Bell is used on their lines to substitute the Edison for it. They will thus take the customers we have obtained with great labor & expense & before we have received any pecuniary return, they will enter & enjoy the harvest we have prepared; against this contigency we must provide."
