Title
[D8106H], Letter from John G Gilmer to Thomas Alva Edison, October 4th, 1881
Editor's Notes
suggests ideas for a facsimilie machine based on Edison's perforated strip invention. Suggests peculiar inks and papers as ways of extending that idea to allowing letters to be transmitted in their written forms; the concept is not unlike that underlying the FAX machines in use today. Asks if there is "anything in my idea or is it practicable, or has it been tried and abandoned". Requests Edison to send him his "decision on it, if only a few words". Followed by Menlo Park office shorthand.
