Editor's Notes
[written from Paris] Sent by Batch to install Milan plant; just returned. Describes lights installed in drawing rooms, etc, of LaScala. "The people were wild over it." Good prospects for formation of Co for all of Italy; think Paris company should divie Italy north/south. Thinks advantageous to go with Mr. Shepherd who has wide circle of influential friends. Left Milan with possibility of retrning as chief engineer there, after duties at Paris factory completed. "It is not my intention to remain in France. Indeed I may not be wanted. There is nothing for an American in France. The French know it all." My work here nearly done; expect early start-up of lamp factory at Ivry. PS Batchelor satisfied that I go into engineer dept after factory start-up, as Hipple will run it.
