Title

[D8603ZAI1], Letter from Ezra Torrance Gilliland to Samuel Insull, March 7th, 1886

Editor's Notes

[Sent from Ft. Myers] We arrived here safely about a week ago and found our houses not completed. The work is being finished as rapidly as possible and we will probably get into one of the houses about the middle of this month. Both families will live together until the other is completed, say 2 months later. The Lab is not yet complete and probably will not be in time to do any work this season. ##I left in such a hurry that I forgot many papers which I need badly, Park and Telfondo[?] bill particularly. I have no means of knowing whether we get what's charged or whether we leave a portion of it at Key West where it's transferred. We ought to have a letter press and a copy book. There are one or two (books) in the laboratory at 292[?] which I bought at about the same time you bought one or two, which left an extra or two. I wish you would buy a medium price letter press and pack one or two copy books with it and send it by Mallory[ ine soon as convenient (send our mail to Tampa, FL, care Steamer Manatee). This way, we get it nearly a week earlier (or in say 5 to 6 days and by regular mail to Ft. Myers it takes 2 to 3 weeks). I have not heard a single word from NY from anybody since the day I left 3 weeks ago. TAE reached Jacksonville last Sunday and sent a message asking how the houses are getting along. I haven't heard from him since then. ##I was sorry I had to rush off so fast and had no opportunity to say goodbye. ##I told Johnny to have Galley[?] send the organ by Mallory Line with the pictures which Toppy was going to buy and send. I hope he has done so as there is not even a [-----] harp down here and we need music badly.
