Title

[D8603ZBT], Letter from Connelly and Curtis to Thomas Alva Edison, June 12th, 1886

Editor's Notes

The publication of The Cook is delayed. More capital is needed. We have carried the enterprise to the utmost extent of our unaided ability. Notwithstanding this, The Cook is not a failure. With the immediate assistance of a limited capital, it will at once earn profits which are sure to increase. It has a good and steadily growing circulation; enough advertising contracts secured to meet its running expenses; and sufficient additional pledged in the near future to assure a handsome weekly profit. Its total indebtedness is less than $2500. The fullest knowledge of its affairs is at your service and will show you clearly that money put into The Cook now will be a sound investment. ##If you have found the character and conduct of The Cook such as to command respect and make you its friend, and the value of the service it has rendered in bettering and brightening your home life has obtained your recognition, now is the time to show your appreciation. Were we not convinced of the domestic value and business profits of The Cook, we would neither make any further effort ourselves nor invite your cooperation. Knowing the business as we do, we earnestly request it. ##It is proposed to form a new stock company for a new start, and your subscription to a portion of the Treasury Stock is solicited. If the matter is one that commends itself to you even so far as to lead you to investigate the facts on which our confidence is based, we will be happy to have a personal interview with you at your earliest convenience. ##A stamp is enclosed for reply.
