Title
[D8605B], Letter from Harry Croker Cahill to Thomas Alva Edison, January 27th, 1886
Editor's Notes
[Letterhead of the Old Staten Island Dyeing Establishment] Not long ago, during one of the cold snaps, I was in my roon on Staten Island marking some collars and cuffs; the windows were covered with a thin coating of ice. I put the flat iron next to the pane of glass when there followed the most terrific explosion, like a gun, and it knocked me back several feet. It did not break the glass. ##Could you tell me whether electricity had anything to do with this? [TAE Marg.:] "Don't think it electricity. Probably steam, but don't understand why it didn't break glass. Better try it again--if it does it 2nd time, I will investigate."
