Title
[D8605G], Letter from William Jay Barnette to Thomas Alva Edison, March 30th, 1886
Editor's Notes
I want to ask you to do me the favor to give me a little of your time to look into the enclosed patent which seems to me to be a very good thing, and to have plenty of money in it to be gotten out of Cognress and the legislatures of the States. ##Prof. N.S. Keith was much interested in our plans while we were developing them, and seemed to think, with me, that we had a very good machine, but as he went West about the time we were finishing our plans, I have not had an opportunity to consult him further on the subject. I mention Prof. Keith's interest hoping it may induce you to give the thing more than a casual notice and by so doing, you will then see the good points of this voter and might be willing to help me place the machine in good hands, with capital, to develop and introduce it. ##If your opinion be favorable, I shall be very glad to go to NY and consult with you. [TAE Marg.:] "The trouble about this device is that Congress will not adopt it as it takes away the great weapon of the minority for fillibustering. I once had a similar apparatus and tried in vain to get it adopted."
