Title
[D8612A], Letter from William T Carlisle to Samuel Insull, April 1st, 1886
Editor's Notes
In reference to the Kingsbury & Co. account sent me for collection and left with your clerk yesterday, and for which a check in settlement was promised me today. I beg to say that, considering the circumstances under which the account is sent to me for collection, namely your failure to answer the numerous letters of Kingsbury & Co. when asked to settle the account, and notwithstanding the length of time it has been overdue, it would only be fair and equitable for you to pay my charges: 10% for collecting the account, particularly as the account is all for money paid out by Kingsbury & Co. for TAE upon his order June 20, 1882. ##Kingsbury & Co. have acted all along in this matter most courteously and with great indulgence. It is therefore only fair that you pay the charges they have been put to in collecting this account. By adding therefore 10% to the sum due as per the account, and sending me a check therefor, I will send you a receipt and notify Kingsbury & Co. of your fairness in the matter. [Added below signature:] If instead of calling upon you personally for a check, I had served you with a summons, costs would have been added to the amount due which you would have been compelled to pay. These costs would have been a considerable addition.
