We are acting as solicitors to the Oriental Co.; would you represent the co. in the following matter (we will be responsible for expenses): TAE awhile back made arrangements with Oriental that allowed it to benefit from all his telephone patents and inventions in the Australian Colonies & New Zealand, subject to the agreement between TAE and Western Electric of 17 Jan. 1880; TAE also agreed with Oriental that he would not take an interest in any telephonic inventions in Australia/New Zealand.###To date, TAE has not assigned the patents in the places referred to, so the co. has trouble asserting its claims.###TAE, in enclosed telegram of 16 Dec 1882 and copy letter of 13 May 1883, recognizes the Oriental's rights subject only to the agreement with Western Electric; have not thought it necessary to send all the various agreements, but will send them if needed.###We've drafted a letter to TAE, which should be delivered through you & have made an accompanying draft assignment.###If TAE will execute the assignment as is or with reasonable modifications, provided he gives us all rights in telephone patents and inventions for Australia and New Zealand, go ahead an execute the assignment; the assignment needs to be legally recognized in Australia. "Probably the attestation of the British Consul would be desirable."; Co. is in doubt about what TAE's full rights are in Australia; a list made since patents were taken out in Australia and New Zealand is enclosed; TAE may be able to specify those in which he is interested.###It appears that one or two of TAE's inventions were not patented in Australia in his name, but in the name of Mr. Welles & others; can TAE specify which patents taken out in others' names are his or which he has an interest in.###It would be desirable to have copies of any documentation showing that patents taken out in others names are TAE's; there may be correspondence between TAE and Welles ca. Jan. 1880 when Welles went to Australia, which defines the terms on which he took out patents there; these would be useful "as we understand Mr. Welles & Mr. Masters repudiate, to some extent at least, Mr. Edison's rights with regard to the patents taken out in their names."
