Title

[D8724AAU], Letter from S A Emmons to Thomas Alva Edison, December 9th, 1887

Editor's Notes

"A little later. I hope you will not laugh at what I now want to speak of. ## We have just had the pleasure of holding a most interesting conversation with a very experienced sea-captain who is now at home for a short time, and, among other things, he told us that in a certain portion of Australia the country is positively over-run with rabbits, and although many means have been tried to destroy them, yet, without success, and that they bid fair to become perfectly overwhelming. He state that the Australian Government have lately offered $125,000. to the American who will devise a sure means to exterminate them from their Country. ## I am sure you have laughed but I will now come to the point. ## The Captain's wife proposed electricity. My first thought was, Mr Edison can do it! Even though it may not happen to be in your line of business to exterminate rabbits, yet, so great and wonderful are you inventive gifts, I am sure you have only to think, when lo! and behold! perhaps the whole this is accomplished! Marginalia by Ezra Torrance Gilliland: "Make it a combination machine with an attachment for Rats!"
