"While confirming mine of yesterday, I now have to acknowledge the receipt of your esteemed favor 27th inst:, in reply to which I beg state that the proportional taxes are the only ones which effect the duration of an Italian Patent, and these have been paid in full, on applying for all your Patents, as they must be paid in advance for the entire duration for which the Patent has been applied for, and as all of your Patents were applied for for 15 years the propotional taxes we consequently all paid in advance (10 francs for each year of the duration). ### As to the annual taxes, there would not be in the slightest benefit to pay them in advance. All that is necessary is to pay them regularly before the expiration of each year. ### Whoever told you that there is a benefit in paying the full fees on application, they certainly intended to speak of the proportional taxes, and as I have before stated these were paid in full on application of each of your Patents, which were all grantd for the maximal duration of fiften years, and this is the very utmost that could be done in your interest. ### The payment in advance of all the annual taxes would not have the slightest influence upon the Patent or its duration, and nothing could be saved by so doing.
