"My friend, and old war comrade, General Francis Darr, is desirous of becoming interested in the Phonograph in some manner, and the object of this is, to ask, as a personal favour to me, to do whatever may be in your power to that end, either by forwarding his letter, should he write you, or presenting him personally to the right man should he call upon you, so that his proposal may be promptly and effectively dealth with. In furtherance of this I can only say, that if I were managing the Phonogaph in America and got such a man as General Darr to assist me in the work, I should feel myself indeed very fortunate. ### Thanking you in advance," [Francis Darr also had some business with Sam Clemens---in Twain notebook #23 p. 100]
