Title
[D8854AAJ], Letter from South Orange (N.J.). Trustees, Timothy Barrett to Thomas Alva Edison, May 26th, 1888
Editor's Notes
"The New York + New Jersey Telephone Co, desire to extend their route through the Village of South Orange and have made application to the Board of Trustees for permission. The sentiment of the people is strongly in favor of an underground route, a sentiment that is demanding recognition from all municipal bodies, having control in such matters. The distance through the village is about one mile and a half. Now judging from your experience as an electrician, do you not think it entirely feasible to bury the wires without injuring the capability of the system? ### Hoping you will favor the citizens of this village with an an answer." I remain very truly yours, Timothy Barrett [TAE marginalia: "His entirely feasible. The only question is can the telephone Co stand the expense and make any money at the present rates that is the sole question."]
