"Calling at the Laboratory a few days ago, to take an affadavit, I had a brief conversation with your typewriter in regard to postal matters in which reference was made to this office, and at his suggestion I make the following statement, asking you to give it your consideration. ### We have three mails per day, to and from this office outgoing mails at 7.30 A.M., and 2.00 and 4.10 P.M. incoming mails arrive at 9.40 A.M., 2.30 & 5.10 PM. By this schedule we connect with every mail from the Orange office, except the 10.45 AM, thus you will see we are not very far behind that office especially in sending out mails. ### There is no salary attached to this office, only a commission on the stamps cancelled, (which means matter mailed here) our only income being from that source, in addition to the box rents. ### The ofice is a great convenience to this section of the Oranges, and seems to be worthy to be sustained, beside adding to the interest and growth of the township. ### The Orange office pays a salary of about $13,000 and if relieved of business to the extent of $1,000 or $2,000, the salary would not be reduced whereas the net income of this office does not exceed $300 per annum at present. ### I made a statement of the matter to Mr. Edison some time past, and until recently have had a share of your patronage. ### Trusting you will view the matter in a favorable light and give us the benefit of at least a part of the mail going out from the laboratory, I will hold myself ready to reciprocate at any time when I can do so."
