"Mr. C. E. Bolton came to this laboratory about two o'clock in the afternoon, August 8th, 1888, with the attached letter from Henry H. Adams. I showed him the Ore Milling process, making the following test:- ### Ten pounds of ground ore were weighed out and passed through the separator, at Mr. Bolton's urgent request. The result of the separation was 8 lbs. of metallic iron, 3/4 lbs. of 'mugump,' Mr. Bolton then requested the mugwump to be run through the machine, which was done, and half a pound of metallic iron extracted therefrom. This gentleman had evidently no previous knowledge of this method of separation, as he failed to recognise the magnet when resting his arm upon it, and after it was pointed out to him he did not understand its use until the man in charge of the machine had made a diagram and given a full verbal explanation. Mr. Bolton's son, who, he said, was student at Harvard, and who seemed to have a slight knowledge of electricity, was with him, and when electrical matters in connection with the Ore Milling process were mentioned, Mr. Bolton was careful to solicit his son's attention."
