- Editor's Notes
- "Your letter of the 3rd addressed to Mr. W. Preston Hix has been referred to me by Mr. Thomas A. Edison as I represent the latter in Consulting Engineer. ### The Edison Magnetic Concentrator is designed to separate magnetic and Non-magnetic materials and thus enrich iron ores by removing the [unclear] material, or decrease the percentages of phosphorous in magnetic iron ores, it can also be applied to the enrichment of hematites by roasting them before separation the machine does not reduce or smelt the ore, or convert it into a metal, but prepares a product which is very desirable for several direct processes for producing iron sponge suitable for steel production. The separated ore can be used for these processes or for smelting in the ordinary method with coke or charcoal in blast furnaces. I am familiar with the deposit in Llano County, and have had several conferences with Mr. Wakefield upon the extent and character of the ores, which as far as I know are not magnetic." Yours respectfully, John Birkinbine
