"Mr. Edison has instructed me to make a mechanical and electrical series of tests upon inch samples of your cable as you are willing to supply for this purposes, and I am therefore ready to carry out these tests whenever you may be pleased to forward the samples. I cannot however promise anything more than a fair trial for them as Mr. Edison wishes me to supply the facts connected with the tests to noone but himself, and I must therefore refer you to him directly for all information concerning them. ### I would suggest that it would be in every way more advantageous to have the sample lengths not less than 30 feet in length and also that if there are any restrictions that should be placed upon the limits of strain or temperature in carrying out the purposed trials that they may accompany the samples."
