Title

[D8933ACM], Letter from J D Condict to Alfred Ord Tate, November 12th, 1889

Editor's Notes

On Nov. 2d I left with you at your laboratory a sample of asphaltium the result of distillation of Wyoming Territory petroleum, with the request that you examine it and see if you can make use of it for covering electric wires, or for any other purpose. I shall be glad to hear from you as to the result of your examinations ## [TAE marg: The sample is a mixture of oxidized Hydrocarbon & sulphurized Hydrocarbon--It could be used in considerable quanlity if cheap enough for our underground tube material. I do not see what other use it would have for insulating purposes--we should be compelled to tin out [wires?] to prevent action of sulphur Ordinary Coal too can be turned into the same [character?] of material by healing with sulphur & oxide manganese How much per ton delivered]
