[Columbia, SC] At the request of Col. Haskell Presdt of the Loan and Exchange Banks of this city I write for information regarding Mr. Edison's process for separating iron ore. ## Is the process equally applicable to magnetic and non-magnetic ore and will make power suffice as a motron? Is heat necessary at any stage of the process? Is the machinery and apparatus now on the market? Is it costly? Is it expensive to maintian? Is it cumbersome? These are a few of the questions asked me. Any infromation you can furnish will be appreciated. ## There are in the state very considerable iron fields but much of the difficulty in working them is caused by the absense of coal. On the other hand there is conveninient water pwer in abundance. Naturally, therefore the published description of Mr. Edisons discovery has attracted much attention amoung the oweners of property containing iron ore. Col. Naskell is especially interested. He is a capitalist and gentleman of standing; as well as a believer in progress. He is the same gentleman with whom I have lately had some conversations looking to the inshalend of a central station place as his cotton mill. I have strong hopes of being able to do some business with him after a time.
