Title

[D8955ABG], Letter from Alfred Theodore Andreas to Thomas Alva Edison, April 2nd, 1889

Editor's Notes

[Letterhead of Cyclorama of the Merrimac and Monitor Naval Battle, Chicago] Wants to produce the sounds of battle in conjunction with the cyclorama; did experiements with old phonograph with Johnson in NY; did not produce sounds loud enough; did same thing here with last invention; Gen. Ransom promised me a machine that will throw sounds out into the room; but he is sick and hasn't been able to help; if anything can be done in the matter now is the season; I can produce the sounds by various instruments but they are too loud and frighten people; want sounds to be combined in the instrument; The phonograph gives the distant sound necessary; if this can be done, it will open a new field for your invention and give it great publicity.
