Mr Thomas A Edison

Dear Sir

Pertaining to our conversation at Bethlehem concerning nickel, I much desire to have your custom for that metal, of which I have a larger stock on hand and better quality than anyone in America

It seems absurd to be getting nickel from Europe when our own country has it and can supply it as good and as cheap โ€” in regard to price I know that the practice of the foreign agents is to seduce buyers by special terms, a little below the market price, and if you will kindly inform me what you have been paying, I will undertake to furnish you a better article at least as cheap, and if you like will contract to deliver all you want at a fixed price for a year

I have written to my furnace manager at Port Oram about using your concentrated ore, and he will investigate

Next Tuesday night I leave here for the season after which my address will be P. O. Box 1332 Philadelphia

Yours truly
Joseph Wharton

<Edison marginalia: We laid in a supply of sheet & wire sometime ago will ascertain prices & let you know โ€” Do the steel men get their nickel from the foreigners โ€” I am always wondering whe[n] the Canadian Copper Co [will sell] their nickel. Edison>
