Howell's letter of the 3rd (E1584AA) is addressed to Meadowcroft. Meadowcroft had conducted his own experiments on X-rays in 1896, discussed in his book The ABC of the X-Rays (https://archive.org/details/abcofxrays00mead). See also https://www.ajronline.org/doi/pdf/10.2214/ajr.165.5.7572475 regarding experiments at the lamp factory by Meadocroft and Eugene Wilson Caldwell. It is possible that Edison rather that Meadowcroft is the author of this letter as Meadowcroft may have made his inquiry to Howell about a doctor to treat X-ray burns on behalf of Edison, who appears to be the one who wrote "Irwin Howell" at the bottom of Howell's letter of the 3rd.
