Title

[LB016270], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to W Le Poer Trench, May 7th, 1883

Editor's Notes

I received your favor of the 20th. ult. together with letter from the Secretary of the Colonial Company with reference to an installation at the Australian Institute at Adelaide. I am having the estimate prepared and immediately it is ready I will cable your company as to the matter and will write them giving full details. I note what you say as to the condition of the Colonial company's business, and I trust your codirectors will do all they possibly can to push the business in Australia. It is in my opinion one of the finest fields for electric lighting in the world, and if you will only hold on until you can raise some money for the exploitation of the business I think you will be rewarded by a very handsome return.##Our business here is progressing extremely well. Our central station is still running with the same perfection that it was at the time you were here. We are adding more lights all the time and all our customers are expressing great satisfaction with our work. Our small town plant business is progressing very well indeed and during the coming season we expect to do a very large business indeed in this connection, as also in that of isolated plants.##Mr. John Burns called here and presented his letter of introduction from you whilst I was away from the office. He has promised to call again in about a week and when he comes it will afford me great pleasure to show him what we are doing here. We understand that Major Field Page intends returning to England via New York. I hope he will be able to stay here long enough to look carefully into all our work as I feel sure that if he does so he will be fully rewarded for the trouble.
