"I enclose herewith a letter from Mr. P.G. Robert, Jr., with whose name perhaps you are familiar as a well known writer for the press of New York City, as well as the regular correspondent of a number of London journals. When Mr. Edison gave the first exhibition of the phonograph. Mr. Hubert did some excellent work of a literally nature, and Mr. Edison made him a personal promise that he should have a phonograph for his own use when the machine was perfected. From time to time since then Hubert has written articles about the phonograph, and, as you will see, has not forgotten Mr. Edison's promise. The latter would like very much to carry out this pledge and has asked me to write you in regard to it. He [unclear] that if [unclear] Hubert have a machine for [unclear] rental or with a rebate of the annuity held by [unclear] you will be sure the services of a valuable newspaper writer, Mr. Edison would like to know if this can be arranged."
