Dec. 10, 80 Dr. A.V. Shaw 2014 Walnut Street, St. Louis, Mo. Reply to your esteemed favor of 17th ultimo has been unavoidably delayed until now, for the reason that since its receipt Mr. Edison has been absent and only returned to Orange a few days ago. He says that he would be very pleased to make a display of his inventions at the Exhibition to be held in St. Louis next year, but is not at all sure that he could get his apparatus together. If it is at all practicable for him to make the desired exhibit he will consider the matter further when the time comes. With reference to the attack made upon Mr. Edison by Mr. Whipple, the statements made by the latter gentleman are hardly worth contradicting. Yours very truly, AO Tate
