Mr. J.H. Shun,
The Buckeye Pipe Line Co.,
Lima, Ohio.
Dear Sir:-
Your letter of 27th ultimo to Mr. Edison, saying that you desire to use one of our 40 light incandescent machines on your telegraph line and about 15 c. p. lamps, and asking if the machine can be used successfully for the purpose, has been received. In reply I beg to inform you that there will be no change necessary in your dynamo, provided that 50 volts will be all that you will need for telegraphic purposes. This you can arrange as shown in the annexed diagram, and it will give you both polarities in addition to your incandescent lamps. If, however, you require a hundred volts of both polarities, the [armature?] and field magnet windings would have to be altered, for which purpose we should advise you to send it to the Schenectady Works of the Edison Gen’l. Electric Co.
Yours very truly,
(Signed A.O. Tate)
Private Secretary.
