June 27th, 1891 E.E. Sheppard, Esq., Toronto, Canada My dear Mr. Sheppard,- It would give me a great deal of pleasure were I able to assist you in obtaining the phonograph mentioned in your letter of 23rd instant, but so many of my attempts to get phonographs for my friends in Canada have failed that I cannot hold out any hope in the present instance. The North American Phonograph Company have never arranged to do business in Canada, and although they have been approached by several responsible people anxious to take the matter up In that country, they have, for some reason which I am totally unable to explain, declined to negotiate. However, I will not let your request without making an effort to have it granted. I have written to the Vice-President of the North American Phonograph Co. and will communicate with you further as soon as I hear from him. Yours very truly, A.O. Tate
