Sept 16th 1891 Hewes and Phillips Newark NJ Dear Sirs. We return herewith your bill for casting Condenser Cylinder the charge of 6 c per lb. we consider excessive, for the following reasons, the casting was full of blow holes some of them filled in with putty and painted over so we would not notice them we were compelled to plug it in several places to make it tight it was the worst piece of work we have ever seen and we would not have accepted it had not our mill been shut down awaiting this casting, as you know we accepted it under protest. We have never paid you more than 4 ½ c per lb for casting before & cannot understand the difference in price. Give this matter your earliest attention and oblige Yours truly Edison Laboratory.
