Sept. 23, 1891. Jacob H. Schiff. Lewis May. Hyman Blum. Emanuel Lehman. Henry Rice. Myer S. Isaacs. C. L. Berheim. Oscar S. Straus J. H. Hoffman Committee. Dear Sirs:- Mr. Edison asked me to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 1st instant, inviting him to participate in a banquet to be given to Mr. Jesse Seligman, at Delmonico’s, on Thursday, October 1st, and to express to you his regret at being unable to accept the invitation. Mr. Edison was obliged to leave home on Monday last on business which will keep him away several weeks. His attendance at the banquet will therefore be impracticable. Did his engagements permit Mr. Edison would be very pleased to take part in the banquet, and by so doing testify to the highest regard in which he holds Mr. Seligman, but as previously stated his absence will preclude his doing so. Yours truly, AO Tate Private Secretary.
