Mar. 1, 1894.
Thos. B. Atkins, Esq., Receiver,
The Nicaragua Canal Construction Co.,
44 Wall Street, New York City.
Dear Sir:--
Your letter of 23rd ult. was duly received, but reply to same has been unavoidably delayed.
The subscription to which you refer was obtained by the personal solicitation of Mr. Hotchkiss, who promised that I should not be called upon for payment only at such times as was convenient to myself. He explained that he wanted my name on the list to assist him in procuring subscriptions. Representations were made that the company was prosperous and would be an undoubted success, whereas, so far as I can see they were in bad condition when the subscription was taken. I shall certainly dispute the payment.
Yours very truly,
Thomas A Edison
