My Dear Sir:-
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your favor of the 14th inst, and also the receipt of the Rumford Medals sent by Express the same day.
I was out of town, or their receipt should have been acknowledged before. I desire to express my sincere appreciation to the Society and assure them that it is highly prized by me. I regret that I was not able to accept them personally but the lines of work on which I have been and still continue to be engaged require all my attention, and I could not find it convenient to get away even for a day.
Yours very truly
Thomas A Edison
