This folder contains correspondence and other documents relating to the production and commercial development of motion picture films. Included are items pertaining to patent litigation among competitors, such as Sigmund Lubin, the American Mutoscope & Biograph Co., and the Armat Motion Picture Co. Among the correspondents are William E. Gilmore, vice president and general manager of the Edison Manufacturing Co.; James H. White, manager of the Film Department; Richard N. Dyer and other members of the law firm of Dyer, Edmonds & Dyer; and attorney Howard W. Hayes.
Approximately 90 percent of the documents have been selected. Items not selected consist of routine memoranda from Dyer, Edmonds & Dyer noting the progress of litigation; the opinion in Thomas A. Edison v. American Mutoscope Company, U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (see Legal Department Records for the case file); the opinion in Armat Moving-Picture Company v.
