Description
This folder contains copies of outgoing correspondence to or about employees and prospective employees. Much of the correspondence was typed by Edison's office staff, and the documents are similar to the material found in the Letterbook Series. Most of the letters cover the period January-October 1888 and are responses to inquiries about employment at the West Orange laboratory. The majority of the letters are by Edison's private secretary, Alfred O. Tate. There is also correspondence by Charles Batchelor, superintendent of the laboratory, and by Charles H. Davids, superintendent of the laboratory's mechanical department.
Approximately 30 percent of the documents have been selected. The following categories of documents have not been selected: routine responses to requests for employment; duplicate copies of selected documents.
