Description
This letterbook covers the period November 1888-January 1889. Most of the correspondence is by Edison and Alfred O. Tate. The letters relate primarily to the phonograph and the talking doll. Other material pertains to the construction and furnishing of the West Orange laboratory; the Edison phonoplex system; and the recall of Edison's agent, Osgood S. Wiley, from the United Kingdom. Some letters deal with phonograph company stock transactions and with Edison's financial assistance to his brother, William Pitt. There is also a list of Edison Lamp Co. stockholders. The spine is stamped "Letters." The book contains 1,006 numbered pages and an index. Approximately 30 percent of the book has been selected.
