This unbound letterbook covers the period July 1878-December 1879 and March-May 1885. All of the correspondence is by Charles Batchelor and is in his hand. The book is divided into two parts. Pages 1-60 cover the period July 1878-December 1879. Most of the correspondence deals with the foreign promotion of the electric pen and the telephone. There are also letters relating to Edison's electric light experiments and to his expedition to Rawlins, Wyoming to observe the eclipse of the sun. Among the recipients are James Adams and George H. Bliss. Pages 61-83 cover the period March-May 1885. Most of the correspondence concerns the promotion of Edison's electric lighting system in France and the unresolved claims between Edison and the Edison Electric Light Co.
