This 450-page volume is the first of three selected volumes in the case of George Harrington et al. v. Atlantic & Pacific Telegraph Co. et al. initiated in the U.S. Circuit Court for the Southern District of New York. Included is testimony by Harrington, Josiah Reiff, Albert B. Chandler, and Samuel B. Parsons, taken in 1879 and 1880, along with numerous accompanying exhibits. Not selected are the original bill of complaint from 1876 and the thirteen accompanying exhibits, which appear in Thomas A. Edison Papers, Part I as exhibits in the case of Atlantic & Pacific Telegraph Co. v. George B. Prescott, Western Union Telegraph Co., Lemuel W. Serrell and Thomas A. Edison. Also not selected are the exhibits on pp. 365-380, which duplicate exhibits previously entered into the record (pp. 284-299); the bill of revivor filed by Edison on December 20, 1895, which reopened the case after fifteen years of dormancy (pp. 440-442); the answer to the bill by the trustees of Jay Gould's estate (pp. 443-445); and the replication by Edison (pp. 446-447).
