These documents cover the period July 1878-December 1882. They consist primarily of letters to Samuel Stockton White, a Philadelphia manufacturer of dental supplies who had investments in the Edison Telephone Co. of Europe. There are also numerous letters addressed to Henry M. Lewis, who managed the affairs of the S. S. White Estate after White's death in December 1879. The documents provide information about the introduction and development of Edison's telephone in Europe. Included are letters pertaining to technical details of the telephone and to management problems at the Edison Telephone Co. of Europe. Also included are several agreements between White and Joshua F. Bailey, an Edison associate involved in marketing his inventions in Europe. Among the correspondents are Edison associates James H. Banker, Enos M. Barton, Robert G. Brown, Charles T. Chester, Robert L. Cutting, Jr., Frederick K. Fitch, George W. Soren, and George Walker.
