James F Connelly Esq Collector
Newark N.J.
Dear Sir: -
I herewith enclose my Income Tax return for the year of 1894. I have eliminated the sum of $208,026.90/100 which was lost in 1894 because [objection to?] by your Deputy in my first return. The law plainly states that this loss can be deducted. The Instruction of the Treasury Dep't [may?] not. I suppose both are law but I am muddled about it
Yours truly
