Title

[MU045], Letter from Francis Robbins Upton to Elijah Wood Upton, January 25th, 1880

Editor's Notes

"The electric light is growing better constantly." Have bulb over desk for writing this, another in bedroom. "Mr Edison is going on with his plans for making a large factory here to make electric lamps. We have no doubt as to the ultimate success of electric lighting and of the great profits that will result..." Lamps are durable; 1 burning 550 hours, several approaching 500, and those without improvements made in last few weeks. Stock rising, bound to go higher when lamp factory running & we get into NY. "If any one wanted to speculate just a little I should advise this as a chance..." Expect large profits from cost advantage over gas.
