Hermann E. Dick, Esq.,
c/o Thomas A. Edison, Esq.,
Orange, New Jersey U.S.A.
My Dear Dick,
I notice by the New York papers that the Edison Battery Co. has been incorporated and that you are going ahead with the manufacturing of the battery.
I have already talked with two or three people here with reference to their taking up this extremely interested in the matter, and are anxious to get copies or report on tests which you have already made l also, on what basis they will be able to secure the rights on the battery for this territory.
They are very much interested to know about the life of the battery; whether it is as durable as the ordinary storage battery cells, or has a longer life. These parties mean business and I would like to treat them as early as you can make it possible for me t do so. As soon as you are ready, therefore, to name prices for this territory I will take the matter up at once.
I think also, that if you could let me have a price on Germany and Russia I can in all probability sell the battery of you in these countries. We have specially good connections in Russia, and have just closed a very important deal there with some of the leading Government Officials. Mr. Maguire has just returned from St. Petersburg on this deal, and will probably go back there again the course of the next few weeks.
I am confident that we can do as well or better for you in Russia than any other parties you have in mind. If you have found any difficulty in securing your Russia patent, I am confident we can be of considerable assistance to you in this line as the parties we know are very prominent in Russia.
Awaiting the favour of your early reply, and with very kind regards,
Yours sincerely
Jos. D. Baucus
