Thomas A. Edison, Esq., Menlo Park, Orange, N.J. Dear Mr. Edison:- I have been very much surprised to note the enclosed matter in the New York Journal today, and must confess that I cannot understand it. I have just left Mr. Fish, who is very much distressed that such a thing should appear in public prints, and who, from what I know of him, would be the last man to want to step into your shoes, if this statement, were true. I am not saying anything about the matter in the paper this week other than to note the fact of the G.E. election, but I thought I ought to drop you a line sot hat in case you desire anything to be said we might understand each other. Believe me, with regards and best wishes, Yours truly, T.C. Martin May 15th, 1901 [Newspaper enclosure with headline "Edison Put Out of General Electric"]
