Mechanical Supt
Edison Laboratory
Orange N.J.
Dear Sir:
I would like very much to get a position in the experimental laboratory of Mr. Edison. I am twenty four years old, have studied electrical engineering, have four years shop experience and have worked three more years with several telephone companies from whom I have letters of reference. I served them in the capacity of electrician.
I hold several patents on electrical devices, weighing systems hotel and telephone calls and others all based on harmonic vibration, are covered by them.
I have made a study of vibratory motion, especially electroharmonic vibration.
I mail to you under separate cover a copy of Scientific American Aug 18, 1900 containing an article written by me describing a weighing system of my design on the harmonic principle.
If you have a position to offer I hope you will let me know. I will not expect any but modest wages, my principle object would be to obtain the valuable experience to be had in your great shop.
Yours very truly,
Edward McGarvey
