January 29th 1902 Thomas A. Edison Esq. Orange New Jersey My dear Edison, We have received your cablegram, reading:- "SHIP AT ONCE 2 SETS EACH 5 15 25 and 50 HP PUNCHINGS ONE EACH COMMUTATOR FOR SAME WANT THESE FOR EXTRA ARMATURES AND REPLACE BAD PUNCHINGS." The same will be taken in work at once and be shipped to you at an early date. I take this opportunity in letting you know, in case you should have any trouble in winding and connecting these armatures, I would be willing to send you one of our winders over there at any time on receipt of a cable gram from you. I may state that you can get a wider here for less wages than you have to pay a man in America, which easily make up the difference for his fare which we would have to pay We have also received from you yesterday the following cablegram:- "CABLE APPROXIMATE COST AT BERLIN FOURTEEN DYNAMOS TWO FIFTY VOLTS TWO FIFTY REVOLUTIONS THREE HUNDRED SEVENTY FIVE HORSE POWER FOR DIRECT CONNECTION" to which we replied as follows:- "NETTPRICE 250 KILOWATT DYNAMOS 2200 DOLLARS EACH, BASEPLATE SHAFT AND BEARING BEING SUPPLIED WITH ENGINES." We have sent you approximate price of 2200 dollars for these machines, not including shaft or base plate which, as I presume that you are using American or English Engines, the Engine maker will furnish. We have sent you approximate price of 2200 Dollars for these machines, not including shaft or base plate which, as I presume that you are using American or English Engines, the Engine maker will furnish. We have just finished two of these very same machines, which you have asked for, and have two more a little larger ones in work. We hope that you will be able to send us this order at an early date, and I can promise you very fine and efficient machines. Hoping to hear from you by return mail, I am with kind regards. Yours very truly, S. Bergmann
