Title
[D7941ZHK], Letter from Edward Hibberd Johnson to Charles Batchelor, November 2nd, 1879
Editor's Notes
Fuller and Leclanch bats give out too fast on trans; only Callaud works well. Can't get them here; ordered 500 Watson cells from Bergmann. Demonstrated phones at Prof Ayreton lecture; Preece & PO crowd there. Dramatic success after failing to work properly in rehearsals. Use only Callaud on trans & small Leclanch on call bell; may put on switch to cut out induction coil & preserv bats. Switchboards should have piece of wood to write numbers on to aid novices. Likes the device for reducing knock. Latest chalks crumble. After standing awhile, chalks stick to pen; indicates they're bad. Rented room for Ott.
