- Yrs of 9th rcd, also yrs concerning quartz sample. If you really can work black sand easily & cheaply, you "will open up the biggest gold field of the 19th century." One hundred miles of sand along [Snake] River. Marg; "....the question is Is the deposits along the river pure black sand or do you have to wash a great deal of sand in the sluicer box to get the black sand pure..." If black sand only 5% of the alluivial then it won't pay.
